Louise Hay, who passed away on August 30, 2017 at age 91, was a pioneer and champion of the self-development field. She had a troubled childhood, yet amazing life. She grew up in an unstable home, marked by poverty and abuse. She eventually ran away from home, became a model in New York City and married a successful businessman. Her husband left her after 14 years of marriage for another woman. These challenges led to her personal philosophies of self-love and self-healing.
Louise wrote her first book, Heal Your Body, in 1976 at the age of 50. The book explores how our thoughts can create our physical ailments. This mind-body connection concept was not mainstream at the time. However, years later Louise revised and updated the book, which became a bestseller with more than 50 million copies sold worldwide.
Thought of as the founder of the self-help movement, Louise started a successful publishing company called Hay House. She also founded the Hay House Foundation, a nonprofit organization that supports diverse organizations in supplying food, shelter, counseling, hospice care, and funds to those in need. Louise’s passion for serving others coupled with her groundbreaking wisdom in creating more mind, body and spirit wellness inspired millions.
The Power of Affirmations
Louise was also an avid believer in the power of affirmations to change life for the better. Affirmations, or a statement that is declared to be true, help to retrain our thinking and speaking patterns. Our self-talk tends to be negative, which can be damaging to the quality of our life. For example, when we say, “I’m never going to meet this goal” it becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy. However, when we turn this thought into, “I’m always achieving what I want”, our experience reflects this belief. It’s amazing! In fact, when Louise was diagnosed with cancer, she used affirmations as well as visualization, nutritional cleansing, and psychotherapy to completely heal herself of the cancer in 6 months.
As a tribute to her legacy, below are 33 affirmations she wrote based in a value. Help break your negative thought patterns with these life-affirming statements. You can choose a particular value or values as a starting point of healing and/or enhancing an area in your life. Repeat the affirmation(s) often and feel them in your body. Write them down and post them where you can see them on a daily basis. Learn how to make affirmations work for you. You’ll soon start to retrain your mind toward your positive belief and manifest what you want in life.
