When something unfortunate happens like a job loss, illness, or divorce, you may feel alone, angry, disheartened, and hopeless. These feelings can be overwhelming and it’s healthy and normal to feel this way. Sometimes, though, we continue to feel this way for extended periods of time, which can lead us to depression. When this happens, choose hope as a way to help you through these difficult times.
Try this: If you have experienced a setback in your life, choose hope by becoming present to your feelings and shift these thoughts to more positive ones. This is not so easy to do but possible. Now stay on track by creating affirmations of hope, writing in a journal, talking things out with people, and really believing that there are better days ahead. Actor Christopher Reeves said, “Once you choose hope, anything is possible.”
