The path a hero walks leaves a trail of light for others to follow. But it may be overwhelming to those who are not prepared for the journey. The reason for that would be what the light consists of— truth, courage, hope, love, and an open mind beyond our comprehension. Such qualities must be sought after and embraced to navigate the honorable shining road. Walking this path can be intimidating because it requires us to step out of our comfort zone, which is like a hamster wheel we run on, never going anywhere. Our intentions should be to better ourselves, allowing us to break free from the hamster wheel.
The fruits of a hero’s work can only be savored after planting the seeds of good intentions and with hard work. With this garden of success, we can digest a healthy, nutritious mindset, leading to a more mature, efficient, and virtuous way of responding to what life throws at us. A hero checks their ego at the door, cleans out the closets full of skeletons, and gets rid of all the monsters under the bed. These skeletons and monsters embody grudges, hate for oneself, and antagonistic behavior that get in the way of their commitments. This doesn’t transpire in a day. Everyone’s trajectory of growth towards becoming a hero varies depending on certain personal characteristics. These characteristics include patterns of thinking, acquired habits from upbringing, current desires, and natural strengths and weaknesses. Regardless, we must fight the good fight when recreating our image into what we assume only exists in comics or cinema. Fighting the good fight encompasses never giving up and believing that in the end, good will come out as the winner. A champion exists in all of us when our heart is of gold. No matter our nationality, the tax bracket we fall under, or our belief system, we can turn our life around and learn to fly.
The heroes in comics or movies can break the sound barrier while soaring through the blue blanket of imagination like a comet that blazes across a starry void. We can’t physically fly the way superheroes can, but we can soar in our own way. We can ascend our outlook on life to the point where our head is in the clouds, handling every issue or circumstance from a higher standpoint. We can spread our wings and allow our spirit to launch out of the depths of our insecurities and toxic environments where villains dwell. In a world where evil exists, the real battle is won when we try our hardest to do well and not cheat others and ourselves. We can acquire supernatural strength not to pick up tanks and fling them hundreds of yards but to break down fortified mental strongholds, watching them crumble to rubble, and still have the strength to rebuild a new set of cognitive practices. We might not have super speed, laser vision, or any fictitious powers we see in colorful illustrations. Still, in reality, we all have unique gifts that can be used for wonderful endeavors that impact our world.
To exploit our gifts for an optimistic and inspirational influence, we must fall in love with working hard every day. Hard work and faith are the keys to unlocking any door. Our insecurities and fears mirror the evil villains in comic books trying to defeat the heroes. These villains want to take over our minds. Stop paying attention to what you don’t have, and put more of a priority and an effort into what could be done to go in the right direction. Because help will not always come, sometimes we must tie the cape around our sinking defeated shoulders and stand up straight. How can one learn to fly if all they want to do is crawl around while the villains step on them? The rent is due in a couple of days, or there is not enough food in the fridge, or sickness laid its bitter hands on our health, but we must keep fighting with every bit of vigor we have left. Our inner villains also work hard to keep us down.
In what can be an oppressive society, there are heroes who have left us with the motivation to move forward. Whether you’re a Fortune 500 company CEO or someone who cleans the city streets of litter, striving to be the best version of yourself is what it means to wear a hero’s cape.
